SURU

 “SURU” project, Re-excavate Indonesian history and culture.

His insatiable passion in a field of design thinking interest him to explore culture and history as well.

He saw how the Javanese habitant used spoon made of Banana Leaves. It was perfect shape for local diet habit to develop, and organic.

However, a wave of modernization slowly reach to that small village. Young generation does not use those banana leaves spoon any more. It was about to disappear from the history.

Same time, plastic spoon replacing it and caused environmental destruction. To solve this problem, he reverted the process by re-developing “SURU”.

This project got “Good Design Tag + Gold Tag” from Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy 2013.

The WCC Award of Excellence for Handicrafts 2014 UNESCO

SURU adalah kata dalam bahasa Jawa yang berarti ‘Sendok’. Kata ini sudah hapir dilupakan, yaitu sendok yang terbuat dari daun pisang yang dilipat sehingga depat digunakan sebagai sendok. Koleksi SURU ini pertama kali dipamerkan di tahun 2012 di “Indonesian Contemporary Art and Design(ICAD)” yang mengambil tema Genius(diterjemahakan sebagai Gen/genetic in Us).
